freelance, for Heroes Will Rise :: 2005/06
One of the most enthralling freelance projects I’ve had the pleasure of working on. Geemo is a non-gender-specific children’s toy, consisting of a soft, elastomeric body ending in three magnetic feet. Designed by Cas Holman as a reconfigurable environmental design element, Geemos are sold in packs of six or ten, allowing them to be connected together in hundreds of different ways. The result is an eerily fascinating toy, attracting the hands and minds of kids and adults alike:
My involvement with the project was as a CAD designer and tooling consultant. Taking this design from a short run of hand-cast prototypes to a mass-manufactured product required extensive reverse engineering, some fairly complex surface modeling, and plenty of factory engagement to ensure the toy had the organic, creepy, playful feel of the original.
