Drum Magazine
with FlatHED, for Allied Armament :: 2007
This began as a reverse engineering project, taking an existing WWII-era drum magazine and building it as a high-precision Pro/Engineer model. Once Allied realized the potential in marketing it to multiple rifle platforms, the scope broadened considerably.
We designed a pretty elegant solution to the multiple platforms problem: the main drum is die-cast aluminum, allowing the tight tolerances necessary to keep 50 bullets moving in a spiral without binding, but the removable collars are brand new. The initial four-part design allows the magazine to be used in a wide range of .308 rifles with a minimum of tooling costs, and the glass-filled nylon material is rugged and abrasion-resistant enough to withstand repeated insertions and plenty of rough treatment–important, given the magazine’s primary market in military and law enforcement roles.
